How to Build a Custom Coil Planner That Actually Fits Your Life

There are two kinds of planner people in this world:

  • The ones who find a system and stick to it religiously
  • And the ones who Frankenstein their own setup every three months (it’s me, hi, I’m the problem)

If you’ve ever looked at a pre-made planner and thought, “Love it, but I’d change… literally everything,” then let me introduce you to your new BFF: the build-your-own coil planner.

This is your guide to building a planner that fits your brain, your routines, your style — your everything.

Why Go Custom?

Custom planning is about more than picking a cute cover (though that part’s fun, too).

It’s about building a tool that works with your life — not against it.

Whether you’re juggling work, rest, parenting, neurospicy thoughts, or just trying to keep track of your moods and meals, a custom planner lets you:

  • Choose inserts that reflect your needs
  • Decide how you want to lay things out
  • Make something that’s genuinely useful — and beautiful

No guilt. No wasted pages. Just what works.

How to Create Your Custom Coil-Bound Planner

Four easy steps. One wicked smart setup.

Step 1: Pick Your Inserts (3–9)

Start by choosing the inserts you want to live inside your planner. These can be anything — weekly layouts, project planning pages, mental health journals, daily logs, budgeting tools, memory keeping pages, etc.

📏 Important: All inserts must be the same size. Choose from: Pocket Ring, A6 Ring, Personal Ring, Personal Wide Ring, B6 Ring, A5 Ring, HP Mini, & HP Classic

This is the foundation of your planner. Pick what serves you right now, not what you think you should be using.

Step 2: Add the Coil Binding Upgrade

Once your inserts are in your cart, head to the Coil Binding Upgrade to turn your stack of paper love into a bound book.

You’ll choose:

  • Your planner size (must match your insert size)
  • Your coil material: black metal or silver aluminum
  • Your coil thickness:
    • Standard coils are perfect for regular use.
    • Upgrade to a larger coil (just $2 extra) if you love chunky planners filled with stickers, washi, and ephemera galore. (We see you, maximalists.)

Step 3: Design Your Cover

This is the fun part — make it yours.

With the built-in cover designer, you can:

  • Start with a pre-designed look (lyrics, quotes, vibes)
  • Or create your own:
    • Add your own text
    • Choose your font
    • Pick a pattern or layout style that feels just right

You’ll also see a spot to tell us the order you want your inserts in.

📚 Note: Inserts must be bound in full sets. That means we can’t interleave them page-by-page — so don’t ask us to mix Daily A with Weekly B on alternating sheets. It’ll be:
➡️ Full Insert A → Full Insert B → Full Insert C, etc.

Step 4: Check Out & Let the Magic Happen

Once everything’s ready, hit checkout.

Behind the scenes, I’ll be assembling your planner by hand — printing, cutting, coiling, and packing it up with care. You’ll have something truly made just for you, and ready to help you plan (or process, or scribble, or rage-write) your way through whatever life’s throwing at you right now.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a perfect system. You just need one that meets you where you are.

This custom coil planner might not solve all your problems — but it will hold space for your lists, your feelings, your growth, and your sticker collection.

And sometimes? That’s everything.
